Mission Kona Podcast
Triathlon: where you can test your limits in 3 different disciplines one after the other! Swim, bike, run. One might say it's an addiction, but truly it's a lifestyle! Mission Kona podcast highlights age group athletes doing amazing things in the Triathlon space. Mike & Michelle Payne are husband and wife amateur triathletes, parents and self proclaimed coffee connoisseurs, both working in corporate America. Mike is also a Triathlon coach and recently qualified for Kona in October of 2024. Michelle completed her first half Ironman in 2021 and plans to race a full Ironman in the near future. This podcast is a journey to discovering what it takes to be competitive in triathlon, sharing stories, and finding the inspiration to go after challenging but worthwhile goals. We talk with age group athletes and explore how they got their start in triathlon, where they live, train and work, how they stay motivated, race recaps and more! Are you interested in growing and performing your best? TUNE IN! There is so much to learn from those who have worked (and continue to work) hard to be at the top of their game!

We are excited to welcome Lori Hopper, coach and owner of Reframe Mental Fitness, to the podcast for a discussion with Mike & Michelle around what it means to be mentally fit and how having a positive mindset can truly change the game for athletes of any ability.
What is mental fitness?
How do I grow my fitness in the mental space?
Why is mental fitness the true game changer when it comes to endurance and competition?
Who can help me on my mental fitness journey?
Listen in to hear about how each one of us can add this practice into our daily routine, and the advantages that come with being mentally fit.
8:15 - "I noticed that in between my music selection that I was using to run with, I would add some affirmations. So I would say, my body was made to run. I can do this. I really like running. "
12:45 - "the biggest takeaway of mental fitness, whether you're an athlete or not, is the fact that it increases the likelihood that you're going to make the best decisions under pressure. "
21:26 - "...if you think about it, when you train for a race, you train ahead of time. So on the day, you are ready physically. So mentally is the same way. We can be proactive with our mental fitness."
24:50 - "You know, all of the athletes that are able to endure some of the hardest competition have a very strong mental fitness aspect in their workouts."
